Use this checklist as your starting framework. A successful migration isn't magic — it's preparation. Most SMBs complete their core migration in 4–6 weeks when they follow a clear plan from day one.

Step 01 — Before You Begin

Audit your current QuickBooks data — accounts, customers, vendors, transactions
Decide your go-live date (allow 4–6 weeks from kickoff)
Choose your Odoo modules (start with Accounting, then add as needed)
Assign an internal migration lead
Select an Odoo implementation partner if needed

Step 02 — Data Migration

Export Chart of Accounts from QuickBooks
Export customer and vendor lists
Export open invoices and bills
Export beginning balances as of your go-live date
Do NOT migrate historical transaction detail — start fresh from go-live

Step 03 — Configuration

Set up your company, fiscal year, and tax configuration in Odoo
Import Chart of Accounts
Import customers and vendors
Configure payment terms, bank connections, and invoice templates
Connect bank feeds

Step 04 — Go-Live Day

Enter opening balances as journal entries
Run parallel books for first 30 days if budget allows
Train your team on key workflows
Deactivate QuickBooks subscription after 30-day parallel period
